B              Reno Municipal Court, Department 4 Judge Selection and Appointment   

B.1              Staff Report (For Possible Action): Interviews with finalists Christopher Hazlett-Stevens, Steven Silva, Henry Sotelo, and Charles Woodman seeking appointment as Judge for Reno Municipal Court, Department 4, review of competence and qualifications, possible selection of appointee, possible swearing in of appointed judge, and other possible direction to staff. - Corrected Item

Recommendation:  Staff recommends Council consider the qualifications of the four finalists and proceed with the selection and appointment to fill the judicial vacancy.

Proposed Motion:  I move to select [candidate name] for appointment to Reno Municipal Court Judge in Department 4.

Dylan Shaver, Chief of Staff, explained the process outlined for this item.

 

Public Comment:

 

Twelve letters of support for Christopher Hazzlett-Stevens, twelve for Henry Sotelo, and one for Charles Woodman were received and submitted to Council and are part of the official record.

 

One voice mail was played at this time from Pam Robertson in support of Christopher Hazzlett-Stevens.

 

Any comments received after 4:00 p.m. yesterday have also been submitted to Council and will be heard under the Closing Public Comment agenda item.

 

Christopher Hazzlett-Stevens was given five minutes to provide opening remarks and then answered interview questions from Council Members.

 

Steven Silva was given five minutes to provide opening remarks and then answered interview questions from Council Members.

 

Reno City Council took a recess at 12:02pm

Each Council Member completed a form to select their top choice.

 

Reno City Council took reconvened at 2:28pm

 

Mr. Shaver reported the results with three Council Members selecting Mr. Hazlett-Stevens, two selecting Mr. Sotelo, and two selecting Mr. Woodman.

 

Christopher Hazlett-Stevens was selected for appointment to Reno Municipal Court Judge in Department 4.
