Recommendation and Proposed Motion

Recommendation:  The City Manager recommends Council direct the Reno Human Rights Commission to research and advise on this request.

 

Proposed Motion:  I move to approve staff recommendation.

Staff Report Formal Body

Summary: In response to constituent requests for research and action related to Indigenous Peoples Day, the City Manager is seeking direction from Council to direct the Reno Human Rights Commission to research and advise on this request.

 

Discussion: At the August 14, 2019 Council Meeting, a number of citizens spoke during public comment regarding Indigenous Peoples Day. The City of Reno Human Rights Commission is tasked with advising the Council in matters impacting human rights and make recommendations to Council with regard to the development of programs for the promotion of social justice, diversity/inclusion, equal opportunity and human dignity among all citizens and visitors of the city. Council can take into consideration any recommendations from the Commission and give additional direction on next steps.
