Staff Report (For Possible Action): Discussion and potential appointment of up to two individuals to the Civil Service Commission from the following pool of applicants, listed in alphabetical order: Nicholas Bajurin, Kenneth Dalton, Ricardo Duarte, Christopher Linton and/or Michael McKinnon.

Recommendation and Proposed Motion

Recommendation:  Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council make the necessary appointments as noted in the staff report.


Proposed Motion:  I move to appoint _____ and/or _____ to the Civil Service Commission.

Staff Report Formal Body

Summary:  There are currently two vacancies on the Civil Service Commission.  The term of appointment for one of these vacancies is January 10, 2018, to July 1, 2020 (to fill an unexpired term).  The term of appointment for the second vacancy is January 10, 2018 to July 1, 2023.  To date five applications have been received from Nicholas Bajurin, Kenneth Dalton, Ricardo Duarte, Christopher Linton, and Michael McKinnon. 


Background:  Charter Section 9.030 requires a seven-member board appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.  Members must: (1) be residents of the City, (2) have no other connection with City government, (3) hold no elective office, (4) serve for terms of five years, and (5) receive compensation as provided by City ordinance.  One term of office shall begin on the second Monday in July in each successive year.  A member shall serve until his successor is appointed and qualified.  A vacancy occurring during a term must be filled by the Mayor with the approval of the Council for the remainder of that term.


Method of Appointment:  Appointed by Mayor with approval of Council.


Financial Implications:  None at this time.


Legal Implications:  Nevada Open Meeting Law requirements apply to any committee appointed by the Council.
