Recommendation and Proposed Motion

Recommendation:  Staff recommends Council approve the reallocation of Council Donation Funds to the City of Reno’s Capital Project Fund for tree acquisition and maintenance.

 

Proposed Motion:  I move to approve staff recommendation.

Staff Report Formal Body

Summary: Councilmember Naomi Duerr would like to transfer $5,000 from Council Donation Funds assigned for Fiscal Year (FY) 17/18 to the City of Reno’s Capital Projects Fund to support the ReLEAF Reno initiative in the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department. These funds will be used to preserve and expand Reno’s urban forest and increase community awareness about our urban canopy.

 

Financial Implications:  Funds are budgeted for Council Donations.

 

Legal Implications:  NRS 268.028(1) states that the governing body of a city may make donations to nonprofit organizations created for religious, charitable or educational purposes to be used for a selected purpose. The donated funds must be used to provide a substantial benefit to the inhabitants of the city. Council approval is required before the recommended funds transfer can take place.
