Recommendation and Proposed Motion

Recommendation:  Staff recommends acceptance of a grant from the Nevada State Emergency Response Commission for the 2018 State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), United We Stand (UWS) grant via Washoe County Local Emergency Planning Committee to the City of Reno Police Department for purchase of a PortaCount Pro Respirator Fit Tester in the amount of $9,295 and authorize the Chief of Police and Mayor to sign the necessary grant documents.

 

Proposed Motion:  I move to approve staff recommendation.

Summary: The City of Reno Police Department has been awarded a grant in the amount of $9,295 from the Nevada State Emergency Response Commission for the 2018 State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), United We Stand (UWS) grant via Washoe County Local Emergency Planning Committee.   The funds will be use to purchase a PortaCount Pro Respirator Fit Tester.   Staff recommends Council accept the grant award.

 

Previous Council Action:  The Council has approved many grant awards involving the Reno Police Department, including a number from the Washoe County Local Emergency Planning Committee.  The most recent was at the September 28, 2016 Council Meeting Item E.3.

 

Discussion:    A grant (Grant 18-SERC-16-01) in the amount of $9,295 was awarded from the Nevada State Emergency Response Commission for the 2018 State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), United We Stand (UWS) grant via Washoe County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to the City of Reno Police Department on October 24, 2017.  The funds will be used to purchase a PortaCount Pro Respirator Fit Tester to replace the current unit that has reached the end of its useful life.  This unit will be used to calibrate the gas masks used by officers when they respond to hazardous situations.

 

Financial Implications:  No impact to the General Fund.  There are no match requirements.

 

Legal Implications:  The City, by acceptance of this grant, agrees to comply with the terms of the grant application including reporting requirements, provision of information for evaluation to the granting organization, and the provision of progress and financial reports on program activities, which will be completed by Police Department personnel.  Failure to adhere to the grant requirements could affect future funding.  Legal review completed for compliance with City procedures and Nevada Law.
