Recommendation and Proposed Motion

Recommendation:  Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council make the necessary appointments as noted in the staff report.

 

Proposed Motion:  I move to appoint _____ and/or _____to the Recreation and Parks Commission.

Staff Report Formal Body

Summary:  There are currently two vacancies on the Recreation and Parks Commission (RPC).  We have received six applications from Susan Burkhamer, Michael Ginsburg, Eric Highley, Erik Jimenez, Margot Murray and Rebecca Pairis.  The term of appointment for one of these positions is for the period October 11, 2017, through September 30, 2020.  The term of appointment for the second position is October 11, 2017, through March 31, 2019 (to fill an unexpired term).

 

All of the applicants are residents of the City of Reno.

 

Background:  Pursuant to RMC 2.08.030, the RPC is appointed by the city council and shall consist of nine voting members who reside within the City of Reno.  Employees of the City of Reno are not eligible for membership.  In the event of a vacancy on the RPC, RMC 2.08.060 provides that the city shall appoint a suitable person to fill such a vacancy.

 

Method of Appointment:  Appointed by City Council.

 

Financial Implications:  None at this time.

 

Legal Implications:  Nevada Open Meeting Law requirements apply to any committee appointed by the Council.
