Recommendation and Proposed Motion

Recommendation:  Staff recommends Council approve the consultant agreement with Farr West Engineering in an amount not to exceed $239,680 and authorize the Mayor to sign the agreement.

 

Proposed Motion:  I move to approve staff recommendation.

Staff Report Formal Body

Summary: Engineering services are required for the evaluation and design of approximately 2,500 feet of new sanitary sewer pipe to increase capacity of the sewer interceptor system #5 and #6 of the Central and South Reno sewer area (see attached vicinity map).  Staff recommends Council approve the consultant agreement with Farr West Engineering for engineering design services for the Central and South Reno Sewer System #5 and #6 – Interceptor Capacity Project in an amount not to exceed $239,680.

 

Discussion:  This consultant agreement will provide professional engineering design services including but not limited to:  capacity analysis, field investigations of existing conditions, geotechnical investigation, final design plans, contract documents and bidding services.  Farr West was selected from the City’s approved list of consultants. 

 

This project includes the design of approximately 2,500 feet of new sanitary sewer pipe in the Kietzke Lane / Terminal Way area to increase sewer capacity to the interceptor sewer system #5 and #6 which serve as a portion of the Central and South Reno sewer areaA significant portion of this sewer alignment crosses under the existing I-580 Freeway (see attached vicinity map). The estimated cost of construction for this project is approximately $4,000,000.  Staff anticipates that the final design and bid documents will be complete spring 2018 and construction is scheduled for summer 2018.

 

Financial Implications:  The Central and South Reno Sewer System #5 and #6 – Interceptor Capacity Project is included in the Fiscal Year (FY) 17/18 Capital Improvement Plan budget for the Sewer Fund.  The project will be funded with 10 percent sewer use fees and 90 percent sewer connection fees.  Adequate funds are available for this agreement.

 

Legal Implications:  This agreement is in accordance with City Policy and State Law.
